RMS Validation

Multiple peer-reviewed articles have shown that the RMS is a validated and cost effective case-finding tool for bipolar I disorder.

In its first validation study, McIntyre et al. (2021) found that a positive score (4 or higher) showed a sensitivity and specificity of 88% and 80%, respectively, while a borderline score (3 or higher) showed a sensitivity and specificity of 97% and 59%, respectively.

In a survey of 200 healthcare providers, Thase et al. (2023) found that the RMS is easy to administer and score. In total, 84% of healthcare providers reported that the RMS would have a positive impact on their practice and 76% said they would be likely to use the RMS to screen new patients with depressive symptoms.

The Daymark Foundation, BIT and the Aune Foundation completed a developmental evaluation of the RMS in two primary care practices to better understand its utility, enablers and barriers to successful implementation, and scaling considerations. These results are currently pending publication.

The RMS is an accurate case-finding tool built for primary care.
